Its head office is in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

The World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) was established by a royal decree of the then King Faisal of Saudi Arabia in light of the proposals adopted at the International Youth Conference held in Riyadh in 1972. WAMY has been playing a global role as an active member of various international forums, including various UN bodies. Since 2000, WAMY has been conducting development activities in various districts and remote areas of the country as a registered organization of the NGO Affairs Bureau of the Government of Bangladesh.

In 1981, the International Youth Conference was held with youth representatives from about fifty countries of the world under the joint initiative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), Saudi Arabia. At the closing ceremony of the conference, former President Ziaur Rahman announced the decision to provide 7 acres of land in Safipur, Gazipur, to WAMY for conducting youth development and training activities. The activities of the WAMY Complex building were officially started there.
